Elaine Page gives Susan Boyle a Cold Shoulder
Speaking at the South bank awards Elaine Page surprisingly didn’t contain herself when speaking her mind about Susan Boyle.
In what will be seen from the general public as a direct attack on Susan Boyle, Elaine Page wasted no time dismissing Susan’s credibility and value as an artist. Literally Elaine compared Susan to a virus that spreads very quickly.
Elaine who a couple of months ago shared stage with her most famous fan singing a duet of “I Know Him so Well” realizing one of Susan’s dreams of singing with her most admired artist. Where Susan was naive enough to say during her audition that she would like to be as famous as Elaine Page one day, Elaine has discarded her fan saying that she doesn’t particularly feel any pride for her.
Perhaps encouraged by Susan Boyle’s omission at the Brit Awards nominations Elaine spoke her mind openly
“I don’t particularly feel any pride for her – I’m sure she is proud of what she has done.
“It’s all about turning someone into an immediate celebrity at the expense of longevity and working hard and experience.
Elaine should remember perhaps that even though she was a household respected celebrity in Britain she was virtually unknown to the rest of the world before Susan’s extremely popular audition.
“Susan Boyle is doing terribly well considering she literally came to the attention of the world overnight with the advent of YouTube.”
She also added to the Daily Mail:
“She was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond.
“She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way.
“She has done terribly well to be a major star overnight with YouTube.”
When asked if she thinks Susan will stay as a successful artist rather than an overnight sensation Elaine is quickly to respond in a patronizing tone:
“That’s a good question. She is a major star because of YouTube. Longevity is gained through knowledge, experience and effort so it will remain to be seen.
“‘When I started, YouTube didn’t exist but even then with 15 years of experience prior to my success with Evita it was difficult, so I admire the way she handled her sudden success.
“Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor just take a bunch of people from real life who think they can sing and try and turn them into overnight “stars” with a couple of songs.
“Ha ha. It’s not entertainment.”
Perhaps Elaine should know better and realize that that’s exactly entertainment, exposure to the public and word of mouth. There are countless of artist more talented than Elaine that have never been as successful because unlike her they were never given a chance.
I am a late-comer to the Susan B. fan club, but I am completely enthralled by Susan’s singing. As soon as I heard her sing in the video, I determined to buy her CD. And as soon as I heard her CD, I knew I would buy all of her CDs that she will make in her new career.
Susan’s singing goes straight to my heart, without the clutter that some singers tend to infuse into the song.
Never heard of Elaine P until Susan’s audition–even then, Susan did not just point to Elaine, Susan said “Elaine Paige, or something like that.” referring not to Elaine personally, but to a type of singing career.
Elaine’s comment is disappointing in that in reveals an interior ugliness that contrasts with Susan’s pure heart.

If not because of Susan Boyle, I have not heard of a woman named Elaine P. An apology to Susan is not enough but Elaine P. must also apologized to all the people who love Susan and be thankful to Susan because people around the World have heard of you because of Susan Boyle.

Susan has endeared herself to the world because she is not arrogant, unkind, judgmental, nor is she a back-stabber! She may admire Elaine, but I sure hope she doesn’t emulate her!

I watch the said duet, Elaine was jealous, she have a nice voice but worldly while Susan was sweet,unadulterated voice,pure and can make you cry because of its sincerity by the singer. Don’t worry Susan..for me you are far better in personality stay true as you are. To me you are a true person both inside and out. Elaine may be beautiful,talented ,good voice and with lots of practice over the years but still she’s not as famous as you made it in one night. I’m kind of comparing you to a Cinderella story and her is the wicked stepmom.

I have ony vaguely heard of Elaine Page, and have never been tempted to buy any of her record. So should not be so spitful and jealous about Susan Boyle.

Elaine Paige didn’t have her facts straight when she made this statement. Susan voluntarily performed in clubs, in and around her home for years, in order to be noticed. She also spent two years in an acting school and is even certified to teach acting. I think she more than “paid her dues!” However, she got nowhere in those venues, probably because of her looks. At least some of the reality talent shows are about talent and not looks!
Elaine has since apologized for her remarks and said they were misinterpreted. That might be true about the “virus” comment, but the rest of her statement did sound patronizing.
I loved Susan’s duet with Elaine. Susan seemed so relaxed and happy when she was singing with Elaine. I’m sure Susan was hurt when she heard, or read about, Elaine’s remarks not too long after that performance. I just hope Elaine has apologized to Susan directly and not just through the press. If Susan accepts that apology, maybe the duet will be part of the next album. I certainly hope it is!

Honestly this lady’s remark was selfish and probably a little bit of jealousy. If you thought that then why did you accept an invitation to sing with her? I have never heard of her until Susan Boyle mentioned her and I googled her, so Elaines popularity was not that impressive, where the world has heard of Susan Boyle and fell in love with her. I wouls rather listen to Susan Boyle a woman with natural talent then some washed up Fading Broadway Bimbo!

Susan, your fantastic voice moved me to purchase an album for the first time in 4 decades, that is how good you are! Now Ms. Paige can only hope to be as famous as you are! But she can never be as talented!
Who is elaine page? I guarantee most americans don’t even know who she is but our first impression of her is not good! She sounds like a jealous has been who wishes she could be as popular as susan! She should know that people find success in many different ways and no matter how sudden it can be lasting! I thank god for shows like amer. Idol, x factor and also youtube cuz it gives TALENTED people a chance for the public to see them and and we can make a judgement on whether the artiist is worthy or not rather than some biased record company exec who would have never given a woman liike susan boyle a chance for the public to even see her! I was already waiting for Susan’ next CD with a duet o two with Elaine Paige to purchase as soon as it would come out . Elaine could have made a good chunk of money recording with Susan and now she is wasting this opportunity.

Dear Susan! We love you and we enjoy your perfomanses! You are fantastic! We are waiting for your next CD or better DVD! What about Elaine Page? Nothing. She is not right, and she means nothing to me. But you, Susan, you have touched my heart so deeply, thank you, Susan!
I have followed music artists and great performers for over 50 years and who the hell is Elaine Paige. I heard the duet and if she could make the hair in the back of your neck stand up like Susan Boyle then I must have missed it. It is too bad that she is so discourteous and disrespectful. I doubt if she would have accomplished the same celebrity if the places were reversed.
I was impressed with the duet by Susan and Elaine. Susan was equal with her, and especially since she didn’t even know the music to “I know him so well”.
I am most disappointed to hear what Elaine said about Susan – I thought she was impressed with Susan’s work. Oh well, Susan was proud to be on the same stage with her.
Remember Elaine, you had to start somewhere too!!
