Susan Boyle says "I’m happy the way I am short and plump"
While recent success may seem like a non expected thing to Susan Boyle and her legion of fans, the truth is that she has been preparing for it all her life. It has just come at the right moment, when she is prepared to cope for it, the steadiness in which she holds the microphone when she sings “I dreamed a Dream” in Britain’s Got Talent is a proof of that.
Susan’s Singing career started when she was 12 and she joined her schools choir, soon everybody that heard her realized that she had a special talent for singing, trophies she currently displays at home are proof of that, according to her interview for the Times Online she never really aspired becoming a professional singer “Not really. I mean, I always sang but it was just something I did for pleasure,”.
But deep down Susan must have know that she had a chance at becoming a professional singer, she recorded two demo songs and sent them to whoever she though might have an interest, but apart from a charity CD from a local newspaper this project didn’t go further.
In 1995 she auditioned for Michael Barrymore’s ITV talent Show My Kind of People but she didn’t get picked up, she wasn’t ready yet, she got too nervous , “I was shaking so much I could hardly sing. I got through it but I never made it onto television. I just wasn’t ready. Now it’s different. I do feel ready.”
She took lessons with a singing coach Fred O’Neil in the period of two years to hone her natural talent and the rest is history, a very public history that in a matter of one week has surpassed anybody’s expectations and any previous virally successful stories.
Will Susan Boyle Change as a side effect of this newfound popularity? Unlikely! her feet are firm in the ground, she will faithful to her roots and values, as she puts it: “Maybe I’ll consider a makeover later on,” – “For now I’m happy the way I am — short and plump. I would not go in for Botox or anything like that. I’m content with the way I look. What’s wrong with looking like Susan Boyle? What’s the matter with that?”.
She’ll keep living in her native Blackburn, West Lothian, she knows who her friends and family are and she has no intention of leaving them.
