Album sales and official news
Susan Boyle has been the center of media attention for a good 7 weeks now. First it was all praising this newly found flawed angel with and voice of gold (diamonds according to Simon Cowell’s bank account recent movements).. She was the underdog that fought all her life to chase after her dream of becoming a professional singer.
The movie stars liked her, celebrities interviewed her, media called her the same names that bullies in her school used to call her when she was little. To me that sounds like the nightmare sometimes we have of going back to our school days a revive the worst moments we lived there. But she had a smile in her face, she was there to say that she was enjoying “every minute of it” in a subtitled way because not everybody understands her.
The most famous person on earth according to Google this past two months, the highest rated celebrity so far this year, not even the Swine flu could beat her capturing media attention, she was one of the most search terms in Google these past two months.
Then came Movie offers, Blackburn invaded by journalists, neighbors talking about her, old recordings appeared on Ebay and Youtube, her few years old rendition of Cry Me A River became an instant classic, all the sudden everybody realized Susan Boyle wan not a one trick pony but a person who had been trying to sing professionally all her life. She really dreamed her dream
An old and humiliating recording of Susan auditioning in My Kind of people was a glimpse of the mockery she had to suffer all her life, yet she was not let down by the host’s misbehavior, she ignored him, tried to play along with his jokes, but her dream was not to come true at that time and the hole thing became an embarrassing episode (she sung wonderfully, but should have nailed her heels on the presenter’s eyes when he was under her skirt).
Big headlines everywhere, she was falling under the traps of stardom, dental veneers plastic surgery, liposuction, etc all where read in articles related to Susan Boyle when all she did was a bit of “tidying up as any lady would have done” as she told Oprah.
Press and media in general had to keep finding news stories about Susan Boyle, she was an eye and attention catcher and any news about her would be read by millions, so anything that the 48 lady from Blackburn would do would be exaggerated, twisted, and enhanced to become a news worthy story.
Young people travel to Blackburn to meet this lady everybody including fellow contestant Shaun Smith would say hoy nice, funny and gracious this lady was.
By this time Susan Boyle was already a legend, the most watched video in the history of Youtube.
The moment to see how Susan Boyle was coping under the pressure of media attention came and everybody was expectant of her performance on the semi final. Susan was shaky she had a bit of a problem finding the right key while singing be she soon found it and gave an outstanding, yet flawed, performance of Memory from the the musical Cats.
That’s when the Susan Boyle effect collapsed, the misstep the media was looking for to knock down the idol the had created and a horrible week for Susan Boyle followed.
She lost her temper, said the four letter word that most of the people use on daily basis several times a day, but our flawed angel could not be so flawed and to make things matters worse, she not only dedicated the four letter word to some journalists that were teasing her, she used it with the law enforcement people that came to help.
15 million people watched the show live in the UK, one of the most watched TV programs in the recent years of British TV
Almost 20 million people tuned in to watch Susan Boyle sing, according to the results only 20% of them where there to watch Susan Boyle and 25% to watch Diversity. I find it hard to believe, Diversity were an excellent act but they didn’t have the attention capture potential that Susan Boyle has.
Susan Boyle performs on stage the song that made her famous I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables in a silver long dress. Her rendition is even better than the first one, more heart felt, perhaps the feelings that the previous week tabloids titulars provoked on her showed in the way she sung the song.
Perhaps the lyrics of the song had a new meaning to her, especially the last verse where Susan sings:
“I had a dream my life would be, So different from this hell I’m living, So different now from what it seemed, Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.”
Susan comes second after Diversity, people in the USA can’t understand, they see Diversity-like acts in every corner of NY, New Orleans and any major city in the USA. People like Susan Boyle are unique and they should win.
But Susan Boyle has won, a recording contract, book and movie deals and probably some brands sponsoring and other movie projects will come her way. Section B movie director said she didn’t care whether Susan Boyle won or not the competition she wanted Susan in her movie.
And at the same time Susan Boyle has lost, she has lost that naiveness, the innocence that she flaunted when she first came on Stage and girl 1:24 rolled her eyes (she later defended 1:24 girl). Susan is in the hospital now, trying to fit everything that has happened in that hed full of tunes and songs to sing to make other people teary and make people feel that dreams come true, she is probably Crying a River over what has happened, but she’ll recover and she’ll live her dream fully.
Let’s all remember why we like Susan Boyle, she is a normal person like you and I but she has a great talent and she is fighting to let the world know of her talent. Let’s all give Susan our support, show it by leaving comment in blogs, youtube and newspaper articles.
She has fought all her life helplessly for her dream, let’s all help her now.

I live in Spain and was so proud to be Scottish. Susan you are a star and you didn’t need to win. You were already a winner. Don’t listen to those stupid people who can only make something through someone elses misery. I am a retired Police officer and you made me cry. Get well soon.
